Welfare Report – June 2018
Hi, my name’s Brenda Nicholson. I’m the Welfare Officer in the UNISON Argyll and Bute branch.
There for You is an independent charity, supported by Unison. Unison is the only union which has an in-house charity to provide welfare services to its members. It provides a confidential advice and support service for members and their dependants.
Financial problems can happen for many reasons, including
- Relationship breakdown
- Loss of income
- Suffering from a long-term illness
- Needing to buy specialised equipment because of a disability
- Caring for someone with special needs or an illness
It can help with debt advice, foodbank referrals, applications for financial assistance and many other services.
There For You can provide financial grants to relieve the pressure while long-term solutions are found.
Thousands of members and their families benefit from the support given by There For You every year. In 2012, There For You was able to award more than 4,000 grants to members, totalling nearly £750,000.
All There For You grants and activities are paid for by donations from UNISON members and UNISON itself.
There For you are always looking for ways to raise funds. You can join the UNISON lottery for as little as £1 a month, and could win cash prizes of up to £1,000. At least 50% of the proceeds from each draw goes towards prize money, and every entry includes a donation to There For You.
Or you could contribute through your salary – tax free (Give As You Earn). You win, and so does There For You .. See http://www.cafonline.org/Services/GAYE.
